Hints For Completing the Scholarship Application

  • Instead of "undecided", list an area of interest as your college major.
  • Circle Need/Merit. There are more opportunities if you circle both instead of one or the other.
  • Get the student's and parent's FAFSA signature pins early.
    See www.pin.ed.gov.
  • Complete the Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA) application as soon as you get your tax information.
    See www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Complete the Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA) application online. Mailing in the completed paper-version of the Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA) application takes 6-8 weeks for processing.
  • Make sure your Student Aid Report (SAR) form has the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number printed on it.
  • Apply to several colleges early. You must include an acceptance letter in your scholarship application packet.
  • Only a one-page essay will be accepted. If necessary, change the font size or margins, but do not send a two-page essay.
  • Review the essay for grammar and punctuation. You don’t want to make a bad impression.
  • Do not leave any questions blank.
  • Answer all questions accurately.
